Albert Edward Slipper 1872-1955

Albert Slipper was my great grandfather. He was born on 6th January 1872 in Romford, Essex to James and Matilda. He was the eldest of 9.

The 1881 census shows Albert, aged 9, living at 3 Goole Cottages, Queen Street, Romford with his parents and 2 siblings. (2 others had died in infancy)

10 years later the family are living at 2 Willow Terrace, Willow Street, Romford. There are 5 children now. (One more having been born and died between censuses and an older sister is not at home). Albert is a Print Compositor.

On 26th January 1895 at the age of 23, Albert married Daisy Florence Payne in St Saviour's, Forest Gate, Essex.

The 1901 census shows Albert & Daisy living with 3 young sons at 8 Stockland Road, Romford. Albert is still a Print Compositor.

By 1911 the family have moved out of Romford and are living in Manor Park at 18 Goldsmith Ave. Albert is now a Printer Overseer. They have 5 children (none have died in infancy) including my Grandmother, Daisy Florence 1910-1989.

Albert’s wife, Daisy died at the age of 52 in 1926.

On 13th August 1927, Albert married Margaret Evelyn Davies at Holy Innocents Church, South Norwood, Surrey.

Margaret was 41 when they married and the couple had a son, Peter, in 1928.

In 1939 the family are living at 401 Stafford Road, Caterham, Surrey. Albert is a Printer’s overseer.

Albert died in Caterham, Surrey at the age of 83 on 16th April 1955 and was buried on 20th April in the public cemetery at the back of St Mary’s Church in Caterham. His son, Peter, was buried with him 2 years later.
