Leonard Walter Bates was my Paternal Grandfather
He was born on 26th April 1908 in Ilford, Essex to Albert and Elizabeth and was baptised at the church of St Mary the Virgin, Ilford on 28th June.
The family are living at 177 Henley Road, Ilford at the time of the 1911 census.
Len married Daisy Slipper on 24th June 1933 in Romford, Essex. He was an insurance clerk.
Len was a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Army Service Corps during the latter part of WWII and spent time in India, Ceylon
and Singapore as a clerk. Service number 14824043.
He was living at 43 Westernville Gardens, Newbury Park with his family at the time of the 1939 census. They lived there for many years until retiring to Plecy Close, Ferndown, Dorset.
Len died at home in Dorset on 29th May 1990
